Having to be on redial at 8.30am to get at appointment is difficult when you are unwell.

I have had consultations with most of the the doctors in the group, if I was unable to get an appointment with my preferred doctor, I would be happy to be seen by any of the others. Not always possible to get through by telephone at surgery opening time, can usually get an appointment by going to the surgery at opening time. I like being able to book a planned future appointment on the internet.

No idea what the answer is, but getting an appointment 'on the day' is very difficult unless you go to the surgery at 8.30am and queue.
